Further Education and Training Certificate: Project Management level 4

This qualification provides you with all the essential skills, tools and techniques needed to support you in your project management role. Key skills areas which are addressed in this qualification include everything from planning a project to project implementation. There is a strong practical component to enable you to apply the knowledge immediately in your organisation. This qualification is focuses on the key principles of successful project management and incorporates a number of easy to apply, effective tools and techniques that, when applied in your organisation, will allow you to become more confident and competent in managing a project.
Suitable for individuals who are:
  • New to the role of project manager and/or lack any formal training in the discipline of project management
  • Looking to adopt a project approach to managing work or are setting up a project support office
  • Contributing team members on a moderately complex to complex project when not a leader
  • Leaders of simple projects
Learners accessing this qualification will have demonstrated competence in:
  • Communication at NQF Level 3 or equivalent (grade 11)
  • Mathematical Literacy at NQF Level 3 or equivalent (grade 11)
  • Computer Literacy at NQF Level 3 or equivalent (grade 11)
On achieving this qualification, you will be able to:
  • Work with others to undertake or support project management activities
  • Assist the project manager and/or project team by contributing and participating in planning, execution and control activities
  • Provide support to the administration of a project

Module 1: Project Management Introduction

  • Explain fundamentals of project management
  • Contribute to project initiation, scope definition and scope change control

Module 2: Assist with project planning

  • Work as a project team member
  • Develop a simple schedule to facilitate effective project execution
  • Represent analyse and calculate shape and motion in 2-and 3-dimensional space in different contexts

Module 3: Participate in project budgeting and risk management

  • Use mathematics to investigate and monitor the financial aspects of personal, business, national and international issues
  • Participate in the estimation and preparation of cost budget for a project or sub project and monitor and control actual cost against budget
  • Apply knowledge of statistics and probability to critically interrogate and effectively communicate findings on life related problems
  • Contribute to the management of project risk within own field of expertise

Module 4: Assist with project implementation

  • Monitor, evaluate and communicate simple project schedules
  • Provide assistance in implementing and assuring project work meets quality requirements

Module 5: Support project meetings

  • Plan, organise and support project meetings and workshops
  • Engage in sustained oral communication and evaluate spoken texts
  • Write for a wide range of contexts
  • Use the writing process to compose texts required in the business environment

Module 6: Use second language communication during the project

  • Use language and communication in occupational learning programmes  (2nd language)
  • Accommodate audience and context needs in oral communication (2nd language)
  • Interpret and use information from texts (2nd language)
  • Write texts for a range of communicative contexts (2nd language)

Module 7: Provide project admin support

  • Conduct project documentation management to support project processes
  • Read analyse and respond to a variety of texts
  • Implement project administration processes according to requirements

Module 8: Supervise a Project Team

  • Supervise a project team of a small project to deliver project objectives
